Professional Background
Kelli McGonagle, attorney and parenting coordinator at New Direction Family Law, declared at eight years old that she wanted to become a lawyer. Now, she uses her compassionate nature and passion for advocacy to guide families through some of the most difficult times in their lives. She understands the stress and uncertainty that come with separation and divorce and is dedicated to providing clients with the guidance, support, and advocacy they need to navigate the legal process successfully.
Kelli’s practice focuses on family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and high-conflict co-parenting cases in Wake and Johnston Counties. Her approach centers on the best interests of children and ensuring her clients’ voices are heard. As a parenting coordinator, Kelli helps families carry out custody orders while striving to reduce court reliance, mitigate parental conflict, and foster healthier co-parenting relationships.
Education and Credentials
Kelli completed her undergraduate studies at Western Carolina University, majoring in Business Law. She then pursued her legal education at the University of Tulsa College of Law, where she gained her first experience with family law through the Boesche Legal Clinic and later as a Licensed Legal Intern at a family law firm.
Kelli was admitted to practice in Florida and began her career with Children’s Legal Services of the Florida Department of Children and Families; while working there, she advocated for abused and neglected children. In 2009, Kelli and her family relocated back to North Carolina, where she refocused her practice on family law in the Triangle area. Kelli is also a trained parenting coordinator, family law Guardian ad Litem (GAL), and a member of the Tenth Judicial District Bar, the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
Approach to Clients
Kelli’s clients can count on her compassion, preparation, and advocacy. She is committed to guiding families through legal challenges with empathy and understanding, no matter how difficult their case may seem. As a mother of four, Kelli has firsthand experience with the importance of maintaining healthy family dynamics, and she brings this perspective to her work. Kelli is a passionate advocate and is dedicated to helping clients feel supported every step of the way.
Community Involvement
Kelli is actively involved in her community, serving on the board of directors for the Poe Center, where she advocates for engaging health-science education for all ages. She also serves on the board of Cleveland Area Backpack Buddies, working with volunteers and elementary schools to alleviate food insecurity among children and families. Kelli’s family is at the heart of everything she does; she enjoys spending time with her husband and four daughters, often cheering them on in their various activities.
