Professional Background
Sara E. Bolasny is a results-driven attorney with a passion for helping clients achieve closure. She believes that effective communication, strategic legal planning, and creative problem-solving are key to guiding clients through challenging times and setting them up for a successful future. Before joining New Direction Family Law, Sara worked as an Assistant District Attorney with the Bronx District Attorney’s Office. While working as an Assistant DA, she primarily focused on domestic violence cases. Her experience in this role has equipped her with a deep understanding of domestic violence victims and enhanced her ability to navigate the turmoil and distress within many family law cases.
After moving from New York City to the Triangle area in 2019, Sara has dedicated herself to the practice of family law, representing clients in Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake Counties. In North Carolina, she has actively contributed to the community by conducting divorce workshops for the Compass Center, an organization supporting victims of domestic violence in Orange County.
Education and Credentials
Sara received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. During her time there, she served as a Staff Editor for the Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law. She also gained valuable experience as a judicial intern for the Honorable Loretta A. Preska of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and for a former justice of the New York Supreme Court. Sara is a member of the Tenth Judicial District Bar, the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
Prior to her legal career, Sara had a successful career as a freelance violinist in the Chicago metropolitan area. She taught and performed regularly after receiving her bachelor’s degree in music from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

Sara enjoys being part of the vibrant Triangle community, where she was born and raised. She is a member of the Wake County and North Carolina Bar Associations and continues to be active in the local legal community. Outside of work, Sara enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two children, playing music, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
