At New Direction Family Law, we believe in empowering our clients with the information they need to make informed decisions. Learn more about our fees and a few tips to help you prepare for your initial consultation.

1. Complete the Confidential Client Questionnaire: If you haven’t already, please fill out the confidential client questionnaire via the confirmation email sent to you.

2. Bring Relevant Documents: Gather any current agreements, court orders, or documents received from the opposing party or their attorney.

3. Be Prepared to Discuss Finances, Expenses, and Assets/Debts: Expect questions about you and your spouse’s income, retirement accounts, debts, expenses, etc. This helps our attorney understand your situation fully and provide the best advice.

4. Be On Time: We understand unforeseen circumstances may arise. If you’re running late, please call the office. While we’ll do our best to accommodate, rescheduling may be necessary due to prior commitments.

Our Fees

Initial Consultation

The initial consultation is your chance to discuss your concerns and goals, learn about your rights, and explore legal options and strategies. The initial consultation fee is $300.00 and typically lasts about an hour. Some consultations may not require a full hour, and others may go slightly longer. Anything discussed during this session remains confidential.

Legal Fees

Every case is unique, so it’s challenging to predict exact legal fees. Most family law practices require an initial retainer to start work. Think of this retainer as your account with our firm, where charges are deducted as work progresses. If additional funds are needed, we’ll request a replenishment. Conversely, any remaining funds may be returned once your case concludes.
Factors influencing costs include:

  • Court hearings or trials,
  • Complexity of issues (e.g., child custody, marital property, type and number of financial accounts, etc.),
  • Level of contention between parties,
  • Need for mediation or additional services and professionals,
  • Time and resources required for case preparation.

By the conclusion of your consultation you and the attorney will discuss any required initial retainer amounts, the fee structure of our firm, the scope of representation, and what to expect next.
